Who we are
Nexus Point Family Foundation is a grassroots 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 41-2558619). This policy explains what information we collect when you use nexuspointfamily.org and our tools, and how we handle it.
What we collect
- Account information. If you create an account to post or claim items or to message, we collect your email address and a password (stored securely and never visible to us), plus any display name you choose.
- Things you post. Items you share, events you submit, and any details or contact information you choose to include in them.
- Messages. The content of messages you send to other members through our messaging tool.
- Forms. Information you enter in our contact form or petition, such as your name, email, and zip code.
- Email updates. If you ask us to email you updates, we keep your email address, the date you signed up, and the exact wording you agreed to. We record that wording so we can always tell you why you are hearing from us. We also keep the state you told us if you gave one, and if you signed up from one of our county pages we note that state and county, so we know roughly which part of the country to keep useful. We do not record a street address or anything more precise than a county.
- Basic technical data. Standard server logs that hosting requires, such as the time of a request. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
How we use it
- To operate the resource map, item board, events board, and messaging.
- To connect you with other members when you choose to share or claim an item.
- To keep the community safe, including reviewing reports and removing bad actors.
- To respond to you when you contact us or sign a petition.
- To send email updates, but only to people who asked for them. Signing the petition or using the contact form does not put you on the email list.
What we never do
We never sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We do not run advertising on the site, and we do not load third-party advertising trackers. Your data is not a product here.
Service providers we rely on
To run the site we use a small number of trusted third-party providers for things like website hosting, our database and secure sign-in, and donation processing. They only process your information to provide their service to us, never for their own purposes. We never sell or share your data for marketing, and payment details for donations are handled directly by our payment processor and are not stored by us.
If you comment on our social media
On Instagram and Facebook we sometimes ask people to comment a word, like ITEM or EVENT, when they want a link to one of our boards. If you do that, we read your comment so we can answer it, and we send you the link you asked for.
What we receive from Instagram is the text of your comment and an internal reference to it. Instagram does not hand us your name or your profile unless you are an account we run ourselves. We keep a record of which comments we have answered, so that nobody gets the same reply twice, and that record holds the comment text and the date rather than anything about you.
We reply only to people who commented on our own posts, only about the thing they asked for, and only once. Commenting does not put you on our email list, and we do not use it to build any kind of advertising audience. If you would rather we deleted the record of your comment, email contact@nexuspointfamily.org.
Cookies
We use only the essential cookie needed to keep you signed in to your account. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Children and teens
Our mission serves families raising children, but accounts and messaging are for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will remove it.
Your choices
You can ask us to show you, correct, or delete the personal information tied to your account at any time. You can stop using your account whenever you like. To make a request, email contact@nexuspointfamily.org.
Every email update we send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom, and one click takes you off the list. If the link ever gives you trouble, email us and a real person will do it for you. You do not need to explain why, and leaving the email list does not affect your account or anything else you use on the site.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including secure sign-in and access controls on our database. No online service can promise perfect security, so please share only what you are comfortable with, especially in messages.
Changes to this policy
If we make a meaningful change, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
